Dublin is a city of villages. One of the nicest is Churchtown, a southside suburb with plenty of heart, nestled between bustling Dundrum and residential Rathfarnham.
Churchtown has grown in recent years but still retains that essential village feel. The Cosy Bean is a great addition to its charms.
This exciting little coffee shop and café opens at the end of the month and the owners, Emma Davy and her husband Mark are confident it will be a perfect fit for Churchtown.
They should know. “We chose the area because we live here,” explains Emma.
The Cosy Bean has a good location – and it has great coffee. “We love good coffee and often drive to the other villages to try different varieties of coffee ,” says Mark. “As customers we have high standards, and we intend to meet those standards in The Cosy Bean.”
Top quality beans are the key to a great cup of coffee. Emma and Mark get theirs from one of Ireland’s most respected suppliers, Roasted Brown.
Quality coffee does not have to be expensive, insists Mark. The Cosy Bean’s pricing is affordable for both the great coffee and the home-baked pastries and other treats that can accompany it. Aimee Ryan of Fodder has agreed to come on board as head barista, overseeing operations at the coffee shop.
Opening a business in the middle of a pandemic could be an unnerving prospect but Emma believes that the problems bring their own opportunities.
“We feel people have time at the moment to mingle in their local suburbs,” says Emma. “Suburbia is growing. Churchtown is growing with additional apartments and residents moving into the area and, with the coffee shop now becoming the new pub, we feel that a cosy coffee shop, offering good quality coffee and tasty homemade pastries, has a home in Churchtown.”
The Cosy Bean name was inspired by its location. “We came up with many different names and ran through them all, but we settled on this one because the site itself is small and in a cosy corner of the village,” explains Emma. “We believe the community spirit of Churchtown is growing and we would like to be some small part of that.”
This lovely little gem is opening soon, on Saturday, September 5. It is on Churchtown Road Upper close to De La Salle College on the site of the old Braemor Rooms, beside the Churchtown Medical centre and Elephant & Castle.
